I guess I got my love of roses from my grandmother. my parents never had any. I always said whenever i got my own home, I was going to have a rose garden. So when I bought one in 1983, soon after, the roses started showing up. I had no idea what I was doing and I bought anything that looked nice. With no knowledge, the troubles started. I had noticed a very nice rose garden on my beat (I was a policeman). One day the homeowner was outside in his roses so I decided to stop and introduce myself. I think I frightened him a little to see an armed man tromping through his roses. Well we became close friends and he taught me so much about our National flower. Through him I met many other rose experts and joined the local rose society. Well it just snowballed from there. I now have nearly 200 roses of all types and I travel to exhibit my roses in rose shows. Sometimes I wonder why did I do all this. Why not pansies or periwinkles? It goes back to my grandmothers love of roses and what she passed on to me.
