My motivations are primarily exploratory. I like wandering through nature looking for new species for my photo collection, trying to find a satisfactory balance between good photography and good collecting. I find close-up photography to be particularly interesting because it causes me to see things that I'd otherwise never notice. Although far from professional quality, some of the results can be found here . . . Portraits of Nature

What began as a photography project has also become a botany education, thanks largely to the folks here at GardenWeb. Although I do have a number of field guides, the Name That Plant forum has been invaluable to me in identifying the various flora I've captured images of. I thank you all.
