I'm a relative newbie to gardening but learning fast. Moved to Westchester NY from a plantless Brooklyn apartment in 2002 to a .35 acre lot that had been neglected for at least ten years. Since I'm basically doing this all myself on a shoestring, it's going to take another ten years to get it back in shape.

I have planned several distinct areas on my sloped and/or terraced property: a grassy play area for my 3-year-old son, a sunny deer-proof xeriscape for bees and butterflies, a vegetable and herb potager garden, a hummingbird garden and several shady nooks and crannies. This is my first year wintersowing and I'm already an addict!
