Been living in southern Illinois since 2001. I find the winters to be fairly mild (time spent dreaming going through catalogues and web-sites), the summers hot and humid (time spent sitting back and resting), the springs usually too short (lots and lots of planting, moving plants, seeding, cleaning, etc), and the autumns near perfect (my favorite time in the garden!).

My house came with alot of shade in the back where grass had difficulty looking 'decent'. So by default, I have learned (and am still learning) to have fun filling up as much of the back yard as I can with shade and part shade plants.

Always on the lookout for new and exciting plants, plus the good old tried and true!
