I have always liked plants. So much, in fact, that I went to school to learn more about them and ended up with a graduate degree in plant breeding and genetics. I was renting a small apartment for first five years of professional life, and I had plenty of time to dream about growing plants again. Now I have room to grow things I want, and the WOW factor, the excitement of a child watching growing seedlings, is back.

I grew up in a climate considerably colder than coastal Texas, so sometimes I miss the seasons, but overall, I welcome the heat and humidity. That's the price we pay for growing things year round.

When I'm not digging in the back yard, I plan vacations years in advance, read, run or bike, sew, knit or crochet, or just chill with my better half. I am fortunate to travel internationally at least once a year. I always take my camera and, out of several rolls of film I shoot, three or four exposures end up good enough for enlargement and hanging on a wall.
