I have had good success in propagating native plants from seed and cuttings and am trying to turn my yard from msotly grass to mostly native species. I am new to cultivating mosses and ferns and having fun with it.
I have also started a small moss garden using native mosses that grow in sunny areas of my lawn.

I prefer to trade only to west coast as I recently learned that even taking coastal species to the interior or the other side of the coastal mountains can affect the genetics of native stock.

I like to use native species in my garden for a variety of reasons:
1. Help preserve local genetics of native stock due to destruction of habitat
2. Less maintenance (no pruning, less weeding as they compete as well as the weeds)
3. Less/no need for pesticides as plants are more naturally resistant to infestations
4. No watering required once they are established as they are adapted to local conditions
5. Native plants attract and provide habitat for local wildlife

I would like to obtain bulbs/corms, viable seeds or cuttings for native plants that grow in shady or sunny areas.

I live in: Canada

My zone is: z8 coastalBC CA

First registered on January 27,2004.
