I live in Clark County Washington about 25 miles north of Portland, OR. I have had dirty hands ever since my grandfather handed me some Kentucky Wonder bean seeds to plant when I was 5. My only break from gardening was when I was in college in the mid sixties.

We have owned our property since 76 actually moving on to in in 77----but we planted 6 apple trees in 76. We started with 20 acres and later added a 30 and a 4 for a total of 54 acres of which about 38 is forested with 3 small creeks.

Through the mid 90's I was a ver practical gardener growing veggies and fruit trees with just a few flowers and shrubs. I think my transition to ornamentals followed from becoming obsessed with growing every possible size, shape, and color of sweet peppers. I always started my veggies from seeds and continue to do that for a high % of my ornamentals. I was very pleased this summer when the Humbolt Lily I started from seed 3 years ago flowered!

I am 90% organic but admit to sometimes painting Crossbow on the cut stems of blackberries. This practice has greatly diminished since I got my DR 12.5hp Enduro all terrain mower early this spring. I love my DR----I would give up my tiller first!

I really enjoy the Northwestern Forum and hope it remains as strong as it has been for the last year.
