I live in the Rocky Mountain plains outside of the Foothills, but would prefer living on the southern 1/2 of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since I don't, I grow what I can here to mimic what I see & smell there. For my gardens, I most especially like taking on challenging plants (like those not supposed to do well in Zone 4) & having them be successful, even if it's only for 1 season, or if I get lucky sometimes, it comes back :). I also REALLY enjoy the "odd-ball plants", those with striking colors, foliage, shapes, etc. that most folks I know around here don't usually grow. My favorites to date: VERY colorful Crotons shaped like seaweeds, a heavy producing key lime tree, & a $2 frilly red hibiscus I won on eBay. Most all were a little expensive as "annuals" for me, but the look & feel they added to my gardens was priceless! My gardening motto & approach: Life is too short to have boring gardens! Make the most of every inch you can find or create, & don't be afraid to try something new - you may be PLEASANTLY surprised!
