I really enjoy growing "hardy tropicals" and other unusual plants. Here in western Oregon(sunset zone 6, USDA zone 8)winters are mild, so it's fun to expirement with marginal or even non-hardy things. I've succesfully grown taro, potato vine, conferderate jasmine, and nicotiana, without any winter protection. Take that garden books!
