I was born and raised in northern Ontario Canada and have been gardening since 1981. Living so far north in zone 2a made it necessary for me to learn to grow some hardy flowers that would grow quickly. Geranium and pansies, petunias and peonies to name a few. I immigrated to the US back in Oct. 2000 to the Boston area zone 6b. My husband and I did vegetable gardening there. We raised tomatoes, peas and kale. I also had a nice container herb garden and grew some lovely flowers.
The best way of gardening in the Albuquerque area is Xeriscaping. A form of gardening using little water and native plants in the most creative way possible. Xeriscape makes sense considering the severe drought weve had over the past few years. It is obvious from looking around that this is desert. Lots of sand and cactus. This coming spring will be my first year gardening in this area and I look forward to the challenge.
