We have 40 sloping acres above Helena, at about 5400', mostly south facing. Two dogs, two horses, and lots of grass hoppers that destroyed most of our newly planted wind breaks. The view is gorgeous but I could do w/o the wind.
Although I'm on a rural fire department and should know better, we built on the edge of the forest and have been spending lots of time clearing dead wood from around our house. Lightning strikes and wild fire are of great concern. I'm planning to landscape with that in mind. I've been collecting slate to use as garden walls/raised beds/fire break.
Noxious weeds should be of great concern to all of us in the Rocky Mtn. region. The knapweed is relentless!!
