We have a large 1/4 acre block in Melbourne, in one of the first areas in Melbourne to be properly laid out. Unfortunately, this means that we are now surrounded by units, desperately trying to maintain our little oasis in the midst of overwhelming amounts of concrete. Most of the garden is native, for water reasons plus it looks great. Unfortunately, one of my favorite gum trees, a spotted gum, has to be removed, so I trying to see this as a opportunity for more sun. Because of the trees, we have a lot of shade, so trying to find natives that cope with some shade is a challenge. Now starting on the front garden.
