I have been gardening and collecting plants for approximately seven years in the Nashville, TN area. Approximately half the garden is deciduous shade, the other half is part to full sun. I am fortunate to have, within close proximity to the garden, numerous ornamental plant colonies naturalized in the woods including: Hydrastis, Panax, Cimicifuga, Actaea, numerous Trillium species, Delphinium, Jeffersonia, Hydrophyllum, Sanguinaria, Silene, Geranium, Dodecatheon, Anemonella, Hepatica, Asarum, Arisaema, Iris, Claytonia, Polemonium, Thalictrum, Phlox, Pachysandra etc.
I have particular love for those members of the Ranunculaceae family, particularly the hellebores, and will likely always have a disproportionate number of these plants in the garden.
Besides ornament and botanical interest, I enjoy gardening for the benefit of insects and birds. Is there anything more pleasing than to watch a monarch flutter bloom to bloom; or a hummingbird move in and out of the foliage browsing the various nectars; or a dozen bright yellow goldfinches dining on a buffet of various ripe seedheads in summer?
