I've been years learning how to fruitfully garden (organically) on a small city lot with more shady spots than sunny ones - and making my peace with the big black walnut on my back lot line. My tomatoes are now ALL grown in containers, tucked into the brightest spots I can find. I did have a very nice harvest of sweet corn, just from an area the size of my dining room table. The corn and the black walnut seemed to get along fine

This year I have two new projects to try: I'm going to put paper bags over part of my apple crop to try to foil the apple maggot fly, and I'm turning part of my teeny tiny front yard into a sunflower patch using all the sunflower sizes from 1 ft tall to 10 foot.

My other occupations are printmaking and dogtraining.

I live in: United States

My zone is: z5 Michigan
