I live in Sunset Park Brooklyn, and am relatively new to gardening (in the ground, anyway. I've had containers in and outside apartments for years). I started my back garden in 2003, a process that has involved removing cement slabs, digging out and replacing a retaining wall, sifting and moving large quantities of earth from place to place...so far more construction than gardening. It's a smallish space, about 20 x 45, but seems really huge at the moment, half built and half piles of stuff...

My idea is to make a garden based somewhat on forest gardening principles, and with an \"edible, medicinal, useful\" theme. I'm not that interested in lawn or strictly ornamental gardens, though they can be pretty, of course. I love to cook, and am always thrilled when I can make a meal entirely out of what I've grown myself.

I live in: United States

My zone is: Brooklyn NY
