I moved a year ago from Topsail Island to a house on the mainland. My 92-year-old mother and her dog moved in with me and my dog. I am the librarian at the local elementary school. I have about an acre. A small amount wooded with pine and oak (The builder must have gotten tired before he scraped the whole area.) Other than that I have a pretty barren landscape--two pine trees, one oak tree, one loquat tree, six ligustrum, the obligatory evergreens on either side of the garage, a struggling wax myrtle that gets no sun, creeping juniper, several leyland cypress that the builder had left over from his massive rows on either side of his property, and of course the two Bradford pears that flank the house and a palm tree on either side of the driveway. I am in the process of landscaping. A friend who has a landscaping business has put in some very sandy topsoil which I now have to amend. He is also putting in some trees for me. Then I get to have the fun of planting everything else!
