Former boat-dweller (who actually gardened - with limited success - while living on a boat) turned land-lubber.
I m thoroughly enjoying living on a quarter acre of land in San Jose, CA (prime gardening climate here!). I ve *never* had so much success gardening before. Almost everything I plant (even things I thought for sure would die!) seems to thrive! I m almost starting to believe I have a green thumb!
I m working on landscaping around our new pool (going for a tropical theme), as well as working on a very productive fruit and vegetable garden.
Second year (2004): Well *most* of the Tropical-esque plants have done pretty well (Okay, the "Mediterranean" plants did well - most of my "True Tropicals" kinda lagged!).
An early summer (albeit not as *hot* as normal) really helped! Queen palms are nicely established and I went a little wild with cannas this year! Check out the Garden Page link from my homepage!
I ll be a much more active poster as the weather cools (GW is what gives me my "fix" thru winter!)
