I'm a fanatical remodeler, remodeled my home 5 times in 30 yrs. I garden in spurts, before children I put out approx 1 acre of veggies, while raising our kids we traveled during the summer and did little gardening. Now that they are almost grown I'm back to a smaller veggie garden and more flowers. I have close to 1/4 acre of iris mostly nondiscript verieties and working on several border beds.
I just added a lot-60'x420' to the north of my existing property expanding to a nominal 2 acres
