I have been growing dahlias for 29 years now, first in Texas and then in Georgia. While I consider dahlias a hobby it really is a job and you take your vacation at Christmas time when there is not much going on. I grow about 400-500 cuttings in my basement each year starting in the late winter and turning the lights off July first.

Growing dahlias is fun and very rewarding in the satisfaction you get from these great flowers and sharing them with others. All of the fuss and bother they sometimes bring are well worth it and I think every gardener should grow some dahlias.
