Hello fellow gardeners! My name is Hoyt, I live in Upstate South Carolina and I live to work in the yard! It is so relaxing to be outside with nature and all things beautiful, especially in this humid weather that sometimes reaches 528%! :o)

My partner and I own a Bed and Breakfast which is a circa 1902 cotton plantation home that sits on 8 acres... and it keeps me plenty busy. Our yard has many plantings that are original to the house, which includes one of the largest Ginkgo trees in South Carolina, huge oaks, plus our 125-year-old English Boxwood. We share the property with our 3 dogs, Maggie (West Highland Terrier), Tess and Zackery (Scottish Terriers).

I am usually in the yard most of the day and it is pure enjoyment for me. Besides the flowers, I also tend a small orchard of peach, apple, pear, nectarine, apricot, blueberry, blackberry, scuppernong and fig. I give a lot of what I harvest to the neighbors and I also make jams, jellies and can (in jars) the remainder so we can enjoy it through winter. I also sell some of these items in our small gift shop here at the B&B. I finished our first cookbook this past spring and just received it from the publisher. I am really excited about it! My yard suffered a bit while I was getting everything in order, but it was worth it. Well, I have babbled enough... LOL!

I am always searching for heirloom flower seeds and plants (shrubs too!). I try to plant items that I imagine were growing here in days gone by.

Happy Gardening Everyone!
