My wife and I have raised our family in an old farmhouse on eight acres in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; part of our house is a 150+ year-old log cabin. I have been gardening for more than 30 years, and for most of those years, my effort was focused on vegetable gardening. However, over the past 10 years, or so, my efforts have shifted to primarily ornamental horticulture. Much of my time has been spent establishing native shrubs, trees, and perennials. Then, about three years ago I became fascinated with Brugmansias, and I now have a large collection of those. This season (2004) I grew more tropicals--Colocasias, Musa basjoo, Hibiscus, etc.--and added to my collection of more than 30 Salvias.

I live in: United States

My zone is: z6b VA
