We live in the foothills of the Appalachian Mts. about 100 mi. east of Columbus, OH and 100 miles west of Pittsburgh. Its 12 miles to the nearest store, and we like it like that! I have evolved garden-wise over the last thirty five years (I grow just about anything edible) and am getting right up to having all my beds into no-till. I have found that everything grows better, although I do miss running my big old Troy Bilt thru the garden and seeing all that nice neat dirt! Were pretty self sufficient out here, and I have a nice graphics business running out of my home. My husband and I are avid traditional archers (recurve bows).
