I have been a gardener for most of my adult life, and I am fortunate now to be able to finally grow roses. We recently moved to an 1840’s Gothic Revival farm house in the country, with great soil, acres of land, and miles of possibilities.
The past 5 years were spent on renovating and restoring our house, gardening only when I had the time. I expect 2008 to be a year of full-bore rose gardening. I have almost 400 roses to plant, and I’m very, very excited to see things develop.
I have a special fondness for ’found’ roses. I guess this love of neglected survivors goes along with my interest in history, genealogy, and adopted pets (we have 4 cats and two retired racing greyhounds).
Most of the roses listed on my HMF garden page (as of when I’m writing this in May 2008) are babies in pots. I can’t wait to see how they develop as I get them into their homes in the ground this spring.
