I have a back yard city garden about 30 x 50 in St. Louis. I have been gardening for about 30 years. This garden is 9 years old. My previous garden was 15 years old and located in the Boston area. That garden was on a hill side, tipped towards the house, so I could view all of the garden from inside throughout the year. It was a shade garden which varied from part shade to complete shade. My current garden is flat and very sunny. Im trilled to be able to grow roses, iris, and other sun lovers that I wasnt able to grow before. Its also nice to have another month of growing season. The clay soil has been a big problem and I have been amending, amending, amending. I am active in our neighborhood garden club, we have a group of 25 gardening friends. We have developed a large empty corner lot into a prize winning ornamental garden with walking paths, benches, and lots and lots of perennials and flowering shrubs.
