I live on an island, 100 miles out in the ocean, off of the coast of BC, Canada. I have tried all my life to garden, and live off the land as much as I can without going to a store, (example find my own local sources of material to build up the soil (kelp, ashes, compost, fish-tea) rather than buy anything)...and I try to find my medicine out there in the woods and fields as much as I can, grow my own vegtables and herbs, hunt for my deer meat, raise my chickens etc., use a green-house to extend my growing season, and am into winter-gardening seriously. I have never accomplished becoming totally un-plugged because I look after kids with special needs and have to interface with townpeople but I try to be as 'country' as I can in my little town, and feel "right", down deep, in trying to. I do puppets, and am an artsy girl, play mandolin for the kids, love to carve, and build bird-houses and such-like.
