I live on a harbor in Long Island sound (Mamaroneck NY).I have a huge garden including 100's of roses which is now on its own since the birth of my son August 2002. WHo would have known roses are so hardy? The drought of 2002 and water restrictions proved some varieties (mostly from Heirloom Roses in OR!) are very tough indeed.
I used to spend every weekend in the garden. Now I hope to just keep up with the maintenence with an infant. I have many plants started from seed my first year here (5 years ago)including lavender, Echinacea, and annual Verbena. Plus many varieties of day lilies inherited from a former gardener--they all keep the roses company.
SInce we are on the sound with runoff concerns, I am an avid organic gardener.
