My garden is my seasonal addiction here in Calgary where the season is too short.

Our tribute to my husband's life was held in our back garden on a beautiful July day last summer. It seemed right to have our friends meet together in the place he loved.

My daughter is a plant biologist and environmental lawyer and my sons are avid about gardening too. They share my joys, trials and tribulations.

We have "planted" my husband's gardening shoes that he wore for many years in all kinds of weather. They have holes in the toes, loose soles and no laces. This year they are filled with ivy, violas and impatiens and sit jauntily on a stump next to a bird bath. He would have liked that.

Gardeners are special people.
