My slowly emerging Japanese-inspired garden will some day occupy a 5 x 10 ft. balcony, which faces north into tall trees. Challenges include a 60 lb/sq.ft. weight limit, squirrel damage, chronic funding and labor shortages, and a bamboo-eating cat. Glories include lots of rain, very few hard winter freezes, the woodsy view, and a profusion of birds.
