I started gardening with my mom when I was a kid. She and I would pull fresh, tiny tumbleweed starts for hours, trying to cover the whole 2.5 acre lot before the high desert heat drove us into the pool. Since, my folks have created a really beautiful desert garden and the tumbleweeds are under control.
I moved to the California Central Coast for college and was immediately amazed at how easily everything I planted would grow. I continued gardening when I moved to the SF Bay Area and found climate changes from Napa to SF a fun challenge. My favorite garden was a shade garden created by an extensive tangle of wisteria vines over a trellis at a house I rented in Oakland. I lived there for four years and loved the wisteria because it provided indications of seasonal changes in the temperate California climate.
Now I own a home and the gophers are breaking my gardening bank so I have transitioned to container gardening.
