I live in an older home on a small city lot. Having a huge interest in gardening, I ve had to maximize the space in my yard. I may have run out of room but there s always plants that don t perform so I remove and redo certain areas. I m a buy now - figure out where to plant later type of gardener. I enjoy "zone pushing" and planting items that I consider rare, at least for Manitoba. The last few years I have been trying to achieve a tropical-look yard, with various tropicals such as croton, persian shield, morning glory vines, bananas, palms and bamboo accessories. The bananas are overwintered indoors as well as cuttings of plants and the occasional tropical, but there s not much room in my 750 sq foot home. I also have a small 5 x 7 pond with goldfish and koi which spend the summer outdoors. We pretty well live for spring, summer and fall and just tolerate the cold winters.
