I'm a passionate planstman, constantly gathering up just one more plant that looks interesting, smells fantastic, might handle my conditions, blah blah blah...

My garden is right on the bay in Melbourne, so it is regularly hurled about and torn to shreds by extremely strong, cold and salty winds coming from the antarctic. Against the odds it is a beautiful garden, lush, full of flowers and scent, and attracting more birds by the month.

I guess I've become a bit of a coast gardening specialist - I grew up on the beach and have always been attracted to the mediterranean style of gardening that suits the coast so well. But I'm constantly astonished at how little people in commercial nurseries know - they tell you that this or that will thrive on the coast, but invariably this or that gets fried by the first storm. So I've tried and erred for 5 years, and have got a great inventory of plants that not only survive but flourish in this harsh environment.
