I'm a Master Gardener, an active member of the California Native Plant Society and a garden coach. I garden in Zone 9 (Zone 17 according to the Sunset Western Garden Book). Our cool, dry summers and wet winters make it difficult to use some of the Mediterranean plants that thrive in other parts of California that receive less rain in the winter and more heat in the summer. On the other hand, we have a great climate for rhododendrons, heathers & heaths, blueberries and other acid-soil loving plants. It would be fun to find new plants that grow well in this maritime climate.
