Welcome to gardengalrn's Member Page
I'm a registered nurse, working in critical care. I am 39 and as far as nursing goes, a late bloomer. I started college back in 1984 at University of Southern Maine but after several semesters decided to join the Air Force in a totally unrelated field...law enforcement. I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines for 3 yrs where I met my husband of 17 yrs. We have two teen sons, a black lab and four cats. Lots of love and disgusting things in this house, LOL. Anyway, we ended up here in KY and I graduated with a BSN at Austin Peay State University in 2002. I've done a little of everything in between from working at Pizza Hut to being a dental assistant. I am a transplanted Yankee from Maine and my hubby is from NE/KS.
My interest in gardening started when we moved here about 9 years ago. I grow a moderate sized vegetable garden for our area that yields more space to tomatoes each year. I do like to try new and unusual things as long as I can still fit in my tried-n-true. I dream of canning my produce and manage to put-by a decent amount but usually there are substantial bags given away because I simply don't have the time. This year I really impressed myself, LOL. I really canned about every little bit I came by in the garden that wasn't eaten fresh at the time. I'm a happy gal if I taste some fresh raw garden peas and strawberries in the spring and tomatoes, cukes, beans and onions throughout the summer. My house is a wreck, you won't find me inside if the weather is nice. Otherwise I'm here at the GW soaking up what I can. I have to mention too that I discovered winter sowing through GW and had much success, especially with various flowers and cool weather crops such as cabbage/broc/collards and lettuce. I have really enjoyed GW and the posters here, lots of knowledge!!
