My husband and I retired to the mountains of WV last April. I'd had extensive gardens at our previous home on the Shenandoah in Charles Town. I had a business called Cut 'n Dried and sold fresh cut flowers and dried arrangements. My partner and I grew most everything ourselves. I moved about 150 plants to our new home and last year the deer had an exotic flora and fauna buffet all year. So this year I am regrouping. I also have a front garden area that doesn't drain and I am now looking for plants that can deal with wet feet for a while. I did a gardening newsletter at my previous job and really enjoyed it. The weekly paper here has a gardening column of sorts. In the winter when there was so much snow, the lady told folks to get out in the snow and make snow flowers and spray paint them for color!! I was stunned. A few weeks later she was out planting bulbs with her puppy and she gave him a bulb to play with and eat. Frightening. Before Valentine's Day she advised folks to go to a florist she knew and get some artificial flowers. Sacrilege. I'm not making this up. Who could make up spray painting snow!!! So I'm just up on the mountain trying to keep the deer at bay and my plants from drowning.
