I am a forester by training, but have always enjoyed gardening most. I currently do some forestry consulting, and dabble in the hardwood lumber market, and operate a small truck patch on my mini farm. Looking forward to maybe getting into meat goats. I had to cut back on the forestry work because I was wearing my knees out in the hills.
I grew up on a grain and dairy farm in Nebraska. Operated a gardencenter turned sawmill pallet plant, then moved to Wisconsin to work in the northern hardwood forests. In 1997, I and my wife moved to Tennessee after raising seven kids to get in a climate more conducive to outside activities. We don t ski, snowmobile, or ice fish.
We have 15 acres, some of it wooded, some hillside pasture, about one and half acres in vegetables and a hayfield. Our house sits atop a hill overlooking our river. Very relaxing.
You can take a boy out of the country but you can t take the country out of the boy.
In 2005 I moved back to Nebraska to buy and operate the family farm, I raise corn, soybeans, wheat, and Alfalfa and my wife has goats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, and guineas.
We hope to spend the last of our days here.
