I just "discovered" gardening when I bought a townhouse with a large yard and a border garden (always lived in 2nd level apartments before with only a balcony for container plants). I have a perennial bed in the border garden, and I just dug up part of my yard to put in some raised perennial beds and purchased eight antique Tea rose bushes for a rose garden (needed something that was hardy and not "finicky"). All this was done as part of my 50th birthday celebration--my gift to myself. Now, I can't stay out of the nurseries and greenhouses, several of which are located within a couple of miles of where I live. My garndfather and my grandmother's sister were both avid flower gardeners, so I must have inherited the gene! A wonderul "mid-life" hobby!
