I live in Western Ky., in a spot they just changed from zone 6 to to 7. I am learning about permaculture methods and Bio-Dynamic French Intensive gardening. When I dream at night, the "yarden" looks like one of those beautiful old paintings from the Rennesaince era, with heavy, beautiful flowers in gentle pastels wafting soft fragrance through the morning air. When I awaken though, it all still looks like...umm, well, like it's got a way to go. For the 2004 season I am trying masses of sweet peas for their esthetic value as well as the nitrogen thing they do. Once again I will also be purchasing all the starter plants. *sigh* Soft fruits, bulbs, ect. We fed the birds here for 15 years (summer and winter) and built up many diseases and a heavy rodent population. Between them we lost many birds and gained many rodents which cost us most of our "good" plants. We removed the feeders two years ago and I am ready to try again. New battle plan against the rabbits and deer. A little thing I call crazy fence, "bubbles" of fencing around different planting areas instead of the whole yarden. I have many questions.....:)
