Im a native Floridian, who recently celebrated her twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. We have two teenage sons,14 and 18. I work at a Christian school that my boys also attend, as the librarian/lunchroom lady/substitute teacher. Needless to say I stay very busy! Our family has a German Shepherd and 4 very sweet (and spoiled!) cats. My whole family is crazy about movies, and Im also nuts about reading-especially gardening books, kids books, and fiction.

Ive loved plants and flowers since I was little, but Ive only been living where I was able to garden for about 13 years now. When Im outside enjoying the birdsong, sweet smelling breezes, and amazing details in a plant, I feel closer to God than any other time.

My favorite flowers are roses, butterfly and hummingbird attractors, salvia, and anything fragrant. A lot of my gardening is in containers, which gets around a lot of the sandy soil and nematode problems we have in Florida. My most recent additions to my garden are Passiflora (which I absolutely love!) and Brugmansia (no blooms yet.)

For all you southern gardeners, I also have to put a plug in for the Southern Living Garden Book. This is far and away the most helpful gardening book Ive ever used. I have two shelves of gardening books, and I would give everyone of them up, before I would give it up. It is literally my gardening BIBLE! I just wish it had been out when I first started gardening. It would have saved me from so many mistakes that were costly in time, money and work! Im so thankful the new edition has come out. (Which is even much nicer than the old one, and worth every penny, even if you have the original.) My hardback copy is literally starting to fall apart, Ive used it so much in five years. In case youre wondering, I dont even know anybody that works for Southern Living or Oxmoor House. I would just like to be able to save people from some of the mistakes I made from reading the wrong gardening books. The best price Ive found is Amazon.com, their hardback is cheaper than the softback at Home depot and Lowes. Amazon also has free shipping since its over twenty-five dollars. And no, Im not affiliated with them either!

May your life and your garden get the right amount of sun and showers for growth.

Happy Gardening!
