I bought my first house in 2003 with the idea that we will fix our horrible backyard, which was the only thing I didnt like. We had a great view of a small forest behind us, but our backyard had such a huge hill that we only had ten steps from the door to the beginning of the slope.
In the spring of the following year, my DH and I dug 10 feet into the hill and built a retaining wall that is 4 feet high and 85 feet long. It took 2 months to complete, but it gave us so much more room.
When I realized that I could turn something hideous into something amazing, I knew that gardening would turn into one of my favorite pastimes.
