We have been in the middle of a kitchen remodel - part of a restoration of an historic house for several years. The thing that takes so long is that I am an avid do-it-myselfer. I built a shed that follows the lines of our house. We removed three non-supporting walls and a 40 foot chimney to create a usable kitchen. (Our preservation society agreed with the decision). I have moved windows, replaced picture windows with period windows that I purchased in Portland, OR., repaired my subfloor, laid and finished hardwood. We put in air conditioning which was a challenge since our heat is hot water and radiators. We virtually didn't build any new chases, we went out eves, through little holes in the attic etc. Took a summer. I am always between fear and elation. Kitchen decisions need to be made now.
