Professional botanist, ecologist, nurseryman, teacher and writer; with serious diversions in the areas of cooking and gardening. Extensive travel experience; mostly notably throughout the western USA and Canada, Mejico, South America, Southeast Asia, Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa. I seem to have a predilection for travelling to places just as they start rioting or shooting; so, several of my escapades have been short-lived. I have two gardens here: one in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada; and, another higher up.
