I garden in NE Oklahoma (zone 6), raising local and Asian vegetables and trying to landscape the yard with native plants in hopes of zero maintenance...

My brother has recently moved to Kapoho on the Big Island of Hawai'i and asked me for advice on his plans to raise vegetables and flowers. He has tried greenhouses (about which I know zip) but wants to try outdoor crops too. He says he has deep, rich soil and abundant (but not excessive) rain and sun.

Help, please!
