My favorite vegetables to grow are tomatoes, peppers, and alliums, then along comes beans, carrots, chard, butter peas, and on and on. I plant in raised beds, two long ones, 50 feet, several smaller 4 by 8s and 4 by 16s. My garden grows by one 4 by 16 bed a year because my compost bin is 4 by 16. Each spring, I move the bin to where next years row will be located, tossing all the top compost into the new bin, leaving the bottom rich loam to plant in. Sounds like a lazy way to make a new row, eh? :-) Well, this method suits my creaking bones.
