Ive been retired for 4 1/2 yrs. and have devoted most of that time to gardening. My husband, Donavon, works the woods while I work the gardens. We have a 4mo.black lab who makes gardening all the harder but we try to work around him. It all depends on who plays out first as to how much work I get done. I have 75 roses, hybrid teas, shrub, English, rugosa, everything but a musk. We have terrible soil. Its dry and stoney so everytime we plant something the bad soil has to be taken out and mixed with humus and compost. We have 2 lily ponds, one runs into the other one. It really needs attention. The dog has really done a number on it. Our other lab used to go into it very gently and sit there like he owned the world. Never disturbed a thing but this one just crashes in. Im not sure if Im going to replace the lilys this year. They need it badly but I think Ill wait until Moonie gets a little more behaved. I have 8 flower beds. One is rhodies, asaleas and hostas. Thats my latest one. We have a lot of deer so thats a battle also. The only thing that worked was dirty work clothes. In the evening our place looked like the Hagerstown Laundry. Then we found this new stuff called Not Tonight Deer. It smells to high heaven but it did the trick and we tried everything!!! Well I guess thats about all there is to tell. Didnt mean to write a book.
