I'm a decidedly unscientific gardener with a typical Bklyn backyard, front tree pit, stoop planter for herbs, window box, and an assortment of impromptu plants in the house: many avocados snake, cuttings, growing potatoes, whatever will grow under neglectful care.

Went nuts over my huge elephant ears last year and am hoping this year's will do as well. Got some herbs, clematis, stupendous hydrangeas, lilies, azaleas and put in a couple of trees - dogwood & ornamental plum - this year. Planted a sweet pea tent this year for the kiddies but peas didn't make it. Am letting the morning glories take it over.

What I like best is simply sticking my fingers in dirt! If "soil sister" hadn't been taken, that would be me. "Dirty fingers" seemed a little too yucky. Hence, "dirty toes"...
