I particularly love wild landscapes and high desert landscapes, trees and shrubs. I prefer ornamentals to veggies, altho I grow all of the above. In the summer, I go out into the garden in early dawn and stay out till breakfast time, then back out till noon. I started gardening late in life, and I really regret that since I will never see many of the things I plant as they mature. I prefer yardwork to housework, and in my ideal world would have a full time housekeeper! I have loamy sand soil and an alkaline ph, but not too bad. I believe everything in nature is wonderful, including all the insects and plants in my gardens, which grow in dimensions every year, with less lawn. I am very interested in converting about an acre of lawn into various sections of different xeric turfs or clump and wildflower areas. I need to do lots of rock landscaping and wish I had a longer growing season, ours here is May 15 - Sept 15, generally. It has been a low of -10 degrees overnight for the last two nights, the coldest I have seen it here in the 6 years I have been in the area.
