Hello, my gandmother who was from Sicily always had a fig tree, her son s my uncles would come every season to Chicago and bury it. The following year she would get much fruit from it. The tree stood a good 10ft tall. My uncles who are now in there 80s have a cutting from it and still bury theirs every year with help from there sons my cousins. I would estimate the tree goes back some 60 to 70 years at least. One day i will get a cutting. I currently grow 25 different types of fig plants all of the dark type in containers . Some include an Edible landscaping fig tree that was not on there web page at the time called a sals that i had bought along with a hardy chicago from paradise nurseries, some from Belleclare nursery now closed and a rare varigated leaf type ( Jolly Tiger ) thats in trial .
