I am an active bird/butterfly gardener, I live year round in an RV resort where I have a very dense garden including flowering trees, shrubs and perennials, two drip fountains for birds and humidity, and a drip irrigation system. There is a pergola extending from the addition to my trailer that is (again starting to be) mass of flowering vines which make nesting sites and provides shade for some of my orchids, which are all outdoors year round. The wind is rather strong here but the orchids don’t seem to mind. I have some background in horticulture and am retired after 30 years in teaching and administration at botanical gardens in New York City.

I think the main interest is that I grow my orchids outside regardless of the weather, which ranges from over 100 in the summer to 32 on occasion in the winter. However, on Christmas eve, 2004, there was a blasting storm with 40-mile winds and near freezing temperatures. By morning there were 4 inches of snow covering the orchids.
