I am a 55 year old first time grandmother to a lovely little girl. I have been married 32 years (in October), have 3 grown children and a minature Dachshund. I have been struggling with grandparent nicknames because my we have two sets of grandparents and great-parents to sort out. My son-in-law calls his grandparents "grandma" and "grandpa" so it makes sense to have them be "great-grandma and grandpa", thus his parents "grandma and grandpa" Through a process of quirky researching I have come up with Lolo and Papa for myself and my husband. The Papa was easy because my sister's grandchildren call her husband PaPa and our dad Big Papa. Since we are a close family my husband will be Papa (means "earth" or "mother earth: in Hawaiian which is fitting because he is our foundation). My sister and I have always invented names for ourselves depending on the situation and I found Lolo means "crazy" in Hawaiian. The family loves it. We'll see if it sticks.
