Welcome to daylilies's Member Page
My love for gardening began as a young child while staying at my grandmother's during summer vacation, it's my passion today and I hope this is a hobby that will be passed on to my granddaughters.
My dream is to have enough acreage to grow a large garden and invest in heirloom varieties, a green house would be icing on the cake.
I'm currently in a master gardener's program for certification through our county extension office. The local botanical garden is one mile from my office, TOOOOOOOOOOOO TEMPTING!! Great plants there and even our mayor participates at the sales. I could easily go bankrupt!
The botanical garden is where I hope to put in alot of volunteer hours.
Gardening is my stress reliever and gives me something to look forward to. My current project is to make a park like area where we've cut down alot of woodlands. I've filled the area with orange ditch lilies, yucca, bamboo shoots, cactus, cannas and irises, mullen and poker plants. It's a real challenge and too much poison ivy.
I would like to participate in a seed and plant preservation project: hoping for a vacation trip to the SEED SAVERS grounds in Iowa. Right now I can only look at the catalog and drool.
My better half refuses to leave the keyes in the truck for fear of what I will haul in, nothing like grass clippings, pine needles, planters in the trash etc.. I've become more than just a gardener with a little inspiration...and a big imagination!! He says I act just like the family dog sticking my head out the window and trying to pick flowers on the inter-state.If you're an avid gardener, you know the feeling!!
I've video'd all my plants to record colors and locations for future trades and ID. So far it's been a real show. Every morning I peek out to see what's new and blooming. This week I have daylilies blooming, and several plants going to seed already. I have met many nice people on this forum and read alot of good advice; hope I can return the favor to new gardeners in the future. Thanks to all for the wonderful trades and the additions to my friendship garden.
Happy Gardening to all,,,
